Got told my resume was 'too busy' after 8 years of adding everything

A recruiter straight up said my resume looked like a junk drawer because I listed every single job duty going back to 2002. She told me to cut it down to just the last 3 years and use bullet points for results instead of tasks. Anybody else have to totally redo their resume after a blunt critique like that?

A whole weekend just to cut stuff from 2010? Man, that's crazy dedication for something that probably should have taken an hour.

That "laundry list" comment stings but it's honest. @finleyk87 I read somewhere that recruiters spend like six seconds on a resume, so trimming stuff from a decade ago makes sense. I tried the same thing and cut my oldest job descriptions down to just two bullet points each. Seemed crazy at first but the feedback was way better.

oh man, i totally get that. i had a hiring manager tell me my resume looked like a "laundry list" and i spent a whole weekend just slashing stuff from 2010 onward. it was brutal but honestly the format after made way more sense and i started getting callbacks way faster.
