I was sure those noise cancelling headphones were just hype until I tried them on a plane

I flew from Chicago to Seattle last week and borrowed my brother's Sony WH-1000XM4s. I thought the engine noise would still get through, but it was like someone hit a mute button on the whole cabin. The difference was so big I ended up buying a pair myself. Has anyone else had a product they doubted completely change their mind?

Wasn't it all just marketing? I used to think the same until my first flight with them, that quiet was a real shock. Now I feel lost without them on any trip.

Honestly I get where @hayes.tara is coming from, but they just don't work for me. I tried a top pair and still felt that weird pressure in my ears the whole flight. I guess my head just isn't built for them.
