inFinally got the old Honeywell panel in that 1970s house to talk to the new wireless sensors.
You know, I used to think it was easier to just replace the whole system. But after seeing a clean install like this, I get it. Keeping that old keypad gives the house its character. Coleman.avery is right about the Sharpie trick, I've done that on a Vista 10SE before. It beats trying to read my own handwriting on a crumpled piece of tape later. Mapping the zones is a pain, but it feels good when the old and new tech finally work together.

inRant: Saw a huge jump in false alarms at a condo building in Austin after they switched to a new wireless glass break sensor.
My buddy had the same thing happen with his garage door opener shaking a motion sensor loose every single morning.

inVent: My old boss in Chicago swore by steaming for a full 15 minutes before extractions
Totally get what you're saying, and @abbyk10 has a good point about barrier damage. I have oily, tough skin and found a ten minute steam works for me before I do my own extractions, but I would never push it past that. It's definitely a "know your own skin" kind of thing.

inOur book club in Denver spent three weeks arguing about the ending of 'The Road' and it almost broke us.
Honestly that ending is pretty clear cut. The boy gets found by the good guys, the father's sacrifice means something. People read way too much into the "carrying the fire" line. It's a hopeful note in a bleak book, not some deep mystery.

inOverheard a landscaper tell a homeowner to just 'top it' for a better view
Ugh, my neighbor topped a huge old oak last year for their lake view. Sure, it sprouted a bunch of weird fast-growing branches. Then a big storm hit last month. Those weak new branches just snapped off. One smashed their deck. The tree looks awful now, like a scared kid with bad haircut. Cost them way more to fix the damage than a proper trim would have.
