My fridge ice maker died on Tuesday and I tried to fix it myself with YouTube.

It started making this grinding noise for about a week. Then on Tuesday it just stopped. No ice. Nothing. I pulled the whole assembly apart, watched a 20 minute video, found a cracked gear. Ordered a $12 part from Amazon. Put it all back together this morning. Now it makes a different grinding noise and still no ice. Has anyone actually had one of those repairs work or is it always a scam?

Bet @michaela16 is right, could be a broken plastic piece hiding in the ice chute.

Read a thing on a home repair forum where half the people said replacing the gear worked fine, but the other half said they still had issues with the assembly. Sounds like you might have another cracked piece in there that got missed.
