Question about how fast self checkout lines changed at my grocery store

Went to the Kroger on 5th last week and noticed every register is now self checkout except one lane, which is wild because two years ago it was the opposite. The cashier told me they cut six staff spots in 18 months, and I'm honestly not sure if it's faster or just feels that way. Has anyone else watched their local store flip like this, and did it actually save you time?

Man, I have to push back on this one because self checkout has never once been faster for me at any store I shop at. You end up scanning everything yourself, waiting on the machine to yell at you about an unexpected item, and the one poor cashier left is stuck babysitting ten machines. The store saves money on staff, sure, but you are doing their job for free and the line still backs up when someone's coupon won't scan.
