The guy at the DMV in Reno flipped my view on waiting in line

I used to show up at the DMV right when it opened, figuring early bird gets the worm, but a clerk named Ray at the Reno office on Wells Ave set me straight two weeks ago. I got there at 7:45 for an 8:00 open and still waited 90 minutes behind 40 people who all had the same idea. Ray said the sweet spot is 1:30 on a Wednesday, after the lunch rush, and he's right because I walked in and out in 12 minutes flat. Now I want to know what other lines I've been standing in wrong my whole life, so what's your best time to beat a crowd somewhere?
