Just realized I've been photographing the moon wrong for 3 years

Last week in Tucson I compared my best shots to a friend's stacked image and saw I never adjusted for atmospheric refraction near the horizon, has anyone else had that "oh no" moment with their moon photos?

Hold up though, I gotta push back a little. I've shot the moon tons of times near the horizon and honestly, atmospheric refraction never ruined a shot for me. It messes with position, sure, but the actual look of the moon, the craters and the color, that's all still there. I think people get too caught up in technical stuff like that and miss the fact that a low moon looks awesome with some clouds or a mountain in front of it. My best shots are usually the ones where I just pointed and shot without overthinking it, not the ones where I calculated stuff. You might be overcomplicating a hobby that's supposed to be fun.
