Tried to stack photos of the Orion Nebula and my laptop crashed 4 hours in

Was out near Joshua Tree last month with my old Celestron scope and a Sony A6000. Got about 200 good frames of M42, but my laptop froze during DeepSkyStacker and I lost all of it. Ended up just eyeballing a single 30 second exposure in GIMP and it looked like garbage. Anyone else have their whole night's work vanish like that?

Man, I feel that pain. Lost a whole night of Andromeda data once because my cat knocked the power strip and the laptop just noped out.

Oh man, that's rough! I feel like cats have some kind of sixth sense for finding the most important cables to destroy. @the_sam at least your cat just hit the power strip mine actually managed to step directly on the laptop keyboard and somehow trigger a full system restore or something? It was chaos for like two days trying to piece everything back together. That Andromeda data loss is brutal though I would've been so mad. I learned the hard way to always save backups in at least two places now. Never trust pets around astronomy gear I guess!
