Update: My all-night watch for the meteor shower changed my mind on fast photos
People always say to take lots of pictures quickly to catch meteors, but I think that misses the point. Staying out for hours let me see patterns and get one clean shot that tells the whole story. (Seriously, the slow way just feels more real.)

What made you decide to stay out longer instead of packing it in early? I've tried both ways and the impatient method never really pays off. Your single shot probably has more meaning than a folder of blurry streaks.

Honestly it wasn't patience, just stubbornness. The cold made leaving seem like more work than staying.

My first meteor shoot involved fifty blurry shots and zero patience. I basically became a human tripod with the shakes, which is as bad as it sounds. abbyk10 nailed it about the impatient method just wasting time. Waiting it out taught me to see the rhythm of the sky, and that one clean shot feels earned. Now I pack extra coffee and let the meteors come to me.
