Every shop I know pushes full panel replacement, but gluing a quarter panel patch saved this guy $900
I keep hearing that you should never patch a quarter panel, just replace the whole thing. But a customer brought in a 2014 Camry last month with rust over the rear wheel arch, and the quote for a full panel swap came to $1,400. I cut out the rust, used a 3M panel bonding adhesive on a patch piece, and sealed the seams with a good epoxy primer. Total came to $500 and the repair held up through two months of rain here in Columbus. The patch is flush, the paint matches, and the owner was thrilled. I'm not saying bonding works for every panel, but for a rust arch on a daily driver it beats cutting and welding if you prep the metal right. Has anyone else had a bonded patch fail down the road, or does it hold up better than people think?
