Found a cheap way to fix plastic bumper cracks without welding
Last week a customer brought in a 2016 Civic with a cracked rear bumper, not worth a full replacement, so I tried the old soldering iron and zip tie trick for the first time. I used a cheap iron from Harbor Freight and stainless zip ties, melted them right into the plastic from behind, then smoothed it with a body filler. It held up to my push test way better than I expected, and the repair cost me about $4 in materials instead of pushing a $300 replacement. Anyone else use this method on thin plastic, or do you go straight for the plastic welder?
