Masking tape peeled my paint this morning on a 2023 Honda Civic
Three hours into blocking out a rear quarter panel, I pulled the tape and the base coat came right off with it. The tape was 3M Fine Line I've used a hundred times before, but this batch must have sat in the sun too long. I had to scuff it all back down to primer and respray. Customer comes back tomorrow so now I'm working late. The humidity has been awful in our garage near Portland this month, maybe that did it. Has anyone else had fresh 3M tape start pulling paint like that?

Oh boy. Had the same trouble with some blue painter's tape last summer.

That "had the same trouble" line hits home. I swear it's like any tape that's been sitting around too long just decides to fuse itself to the surface. Blue tape, masking tape, even the cheap stuff from the dollar store, they all do it eventually. It's got me thinking how we trust these little things to do a simple job, but the second it gets hot or sits there a week, it's game over and you're scraping for an hour.
