inThe vibe at my local shop changed a lot in the last year and not for the better
My local shop in Brighton actually loves when people browse the back issues... it keeps the place feeling alive. Maybe @blairwhite just needs a more patient customer base. Those old comics are the whole point of the store.

inThe day a cafe in Austin made me buy a portable battery pack
Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's disaster last week. He was in the middle of a huge online tournament, and the building super just yanked the hallway outlet for the floor buffer. By the time he could even get to the door, the game was over and his team had lost. It's not always as simple as plugging back in, @troy_ross, some things have real time limits.

inQuestion about those expensive peel and stick floor tiles
Six weeks is way too fast for failure, that's a bummer. Terry_martinez is right about primer being key, but the prep work is even bigger. You have to get the old floor crazy clean, like no grease or wax at all, and it needs to be perfectly flat. Those tiles can't handle any bumps or dips. Honestly, for a high traffic spot like a kitchen, real tile or even luxury vinyl plank is a way safer bet long term.
