Debate: Should we trust factory wiring diagrams or chase the actual wires?

I was under a panel on a King Air in Nashville last month tracing a compass error and the factory schematic showed the ground path one way but the actual harness was spliced completely different. I stuck with the diagram and ended up chasing ghosts for two hours before realizing the real wiring didn't match. Do you guys trust the books or do you always verify every single wire yourself?

Trust the diagram? Lol I'd rather trust a politician's campaign promises. Last time I followed a schematic blindly I ended up tracing a wire to a splice that didn't exist on paper, spent an hour convinced I was losing my mind.

Chase the wires every time... it's like how Google Maps doesn't know about that pothole that's been on your street for months.
