Pro tip: don't cheap out on a pin crimper, my $22 one cost me a whole harness
A cheap ratcheting crimper off a tool truck set me back $22, and I figured it was fine for cannon plug pins until it started mashing the barrels flat. I ate a full repair on a comm harness out of Salt Lake after three pins pulled loose on a wiggle check. A real Daniels tool runs a couple hundred, but it pays you back the first time you don't have to redo a connector. What crimper are you all running, and does anyone actually get good pulls with the cheap ones?
I read a thread on a bike forum where a guy tested cheap crimpers on actual pull tests and most of them failed way below spec, like the barrels just gave out. He said the good ones have a built in stop so you can't over squeeze them, which is what flattens the barrel on the cheap ones. I mean some folks swear by the cheap ones for hobby stuff but for anything that gets a wiggle check I would not trust a $22 tool. Maybe it's just me but the math on eating one harness makes the Daniels price look cheap.
