Rant: I thought the 'tin foil trick' for static was a total joke until yesterday
We had this intermittent fault on a G1000 display in a Cessna 172 that would only show up after the plane sat in the sun for a few hours. The senior guy, who's been doing this since the 80s, told me to wrap a tiny piece of kitchen foil around a specific data wire bundle and secure it with tape. I laughed and said it sounded like voodoo, but we'd already spent 6 hours on it. Did it anyway just to prove him wrong. The fault vanished completely and hasn't come back in three days of testing. Has anyone else actually had a weird field fix like that work for real, or did I just get lucky?

Honestly, I've got a drawer full of old credit cards I use as shims. Felt like a total hack the first time, but some things just work.

That senior guy probably just got lucky this time.

Luck has a funny way of following some people around. He's been "getting lucky" on every project for the last three years. Maybe we should all get that kind of luck.
