Watched a guy pull a cannon plug apart at the Dallas hangar without the lock ring and it changed how I do every connector
He was in a rush for a departure and just twisted it off, and I saw two bent pins a minute later. Now I keep a spare lock ring and pin kit in my box, what do you all keep on hand for the rushed inspections?
Man, I used to be the guy who thought lock rings were optional if you were careful enough. I figured as long as you didn't yank it, you were fine, and I'd been doing it that way for years without a problem. Seeing those bent pins would've fixed my thinking real quick, because that's not a small oops, that's a whole connector gone and a plane sitting longer than it should. I keep a pin kit and a couple spare rings in my box now too, plus a cheap light so I can actually see inside the shell before I twist anything. Takes ten seconds to grab the right tool and saves you an hour of grief later. Being fast doesn't mean skipping the small stuff, it means not having to do the job twice.
