Camp stove success on the Teton Crest Trail

Just wrapped up a three-day trip on the Teton Crest Trail, and I'm pretty happy with how my food plan worked out. I usually mess up and pack too much junk or forget key items. This time, I focused on making a hearty oatmeal mix for mornings with dried fruit and nuts. It kept me energized for those steep climbs without weighing down my pack. I even tried adding a spoonful of peanut butter for extra protein, and it was a game changer. Eating that while watching the sunrise over the peaks felt like a real treat. It's not fancy, but nailing a simple breakfast made the whole hike smoother. What do you guys eat to start your day on the trail?

Ah, cool! My friend once forgot his stove and just ate dry oatmeal mixed with trail mix. He said it was surprisingly not terrible.

Okay, I would have totally agreed with sean_hunt61 before. Dry oatmeal sounds like eating dust. But I got stuck on a long hike once with just that and some nuts. You know what? It's kinda sweet and it sticks with you. Changed my whole view on emergency trail food. Not great, but it does the job.

Why would anyone think dry oatmeal and trail mix is anything but terrible?
