inSpent $40 on a new airlock for my sauerkraut and it's still bubbling over
Should've just used the old bowl-under-the-jar trick.

Charge for materials and labor, it's a full rewire job.

inMy old boss in Boise told me to always use a size 8 shoe for draft crosses
That's just basic horse sense though, not some sacred rule. Fitting the individual animal matters way more than any old saying. Hardly seems like a major revelation.

inJust realized my cheap hydraulic hose crimper cost me a $500 repair
Look, maybe I'm just cheap, but I feel like we're all getting a little too precious about tools. A crimper is a simple machine. I've used the cheap ones for years without turning a pump into scrap metal. Did you double-check your measurement on the hose before you crimped? @dylan413 can have his Gates fan club, but most of the time when a fitting blows, it's an install error, not the tool. Spending a grand on a brand name crimper won't fix a rushed job.
