My neighbor handed me 4 hens through the fence in Riverside and one of them laid a double yolker that night
My neighbor Sal was moving to Tucson for a job and couldn't take his small flock, so he knocked on my gate with a crate and just started passing hens over the fence one by one. He said the red one was named Biscuit and warned me she gets broody on the nest and pecks if you reach under her, which turned out to be completely true. Biscuit laid a double yolker that first night in my coop, and my 9 year old was so excited she carried the egg around the yard for an hour. I've only had my own birds for about 8 months, so taking in 4 grown hens from someone else feels like a big jump. Has anyone else taken in adult hens from another keeper, and did they settle in with your original flock or did you have to keep them separated for a while?

Honestly I'd skip the whole long separation thing and just toss them in at night. Chickens don't care about names or whose coop it was, they care about who's on the roost when it gets dark. As long as nobody's drawing blood you're probably overthinking it.
