Took me 14 weeks to figure out why my hens quit laying
Turned out a single rat snake had been raiding the nest box at night and I only caught it after setting up a $30 trail cam from Tractor Supply. Anybody else lose their mind chasing a drop in egg count before finding the real culprit?
Heard a story on a farming podcast about a guy who lost half his flock's eggs for two months before realizing it was a possum squeezing through a gap in his coop wall. The kicker was he'd been blaming his neighbor's dog the whole time and almost started a feud over it. Something about egg eaters just messes with your head because the hens act totally normal while it's happening. Trail cams are worth every penny for stuff like this, way cheaper than the therapy you'd need from guessing.
