Visited a farm supply store near Topeka and noticed something weird about their chicken feed

I was at Tractor Supply outside Topeka last weekend grabbing oyster shells, and I saw they had a whole end cap of chicken feed with peppermint oil added. The label said it was supposed to keep rodents away. I asked the clerk if anyone actually buys it and he just shrugged. Has anyone here tried that stuff or is it just a gimmick?

Oh man, I totally fell for that peppermint oil feed stuff last spring! I got a bag from my local co-op because I was desperate with mice getting into the shed where I store scratch grains. I figured hey, if it keeps them out of the bag, why not? Well, my chickens refused to touch it for three days. They just pecked at it and walked away. And surprise, I still saw mouse droppings in the feed bucket a week later. Total waste of money if you ask me, it's pure marketing hype. Did the clerk mention if they actually get returns on that stuff?

Did the mice actually eat the stuff or did your chickens just leave it for them? I feel like a rodent might have a different opinion on peppermint than a chicken does, doesn't mean it's useless.
