That $90 'moon filter' was a total scam, raw eyes work better
Bought a fancy variable polarizing moon filter from a shop in Tucson last month, thought it'd help with crater detail. Turns out the cheap cardboard aperture mask I made does the same job at 3% of the cost. Anyone else get burned by pricey accessories that don't beat DIY?

And I was the opposite, figured expensive glass had to be better than a paper hole. Then I did a side by side with a friend's DIY aperture mask and honestly could not tell the difference in sharpness. Now I only buy gear if it does something a piece of cardboard and tape genuinely can't.
