My oven died mid bake at 4:50pm Saturday with 6 dozen cookies still raw
I was at my sister's place in Akron doing cookies for her kid's school fundraiser, and her old wall oven just quit at 4:50pm with six dozen cookies sitting raw on the racks. The bake sale was the next morning, so I had maybe an hour of daylight and zero backup plan. First thing I did was pull everything out and check the breaker, dead as a doornail, then I called the neighbor two doors down who I barely knew and asked to borrow her oven. She said yes, and I ran four trays at a time back and forth across the yard with a dish towel over each one to keep the heat in, like some kind of cookie relay. It worked out, but I burned two batches because her oven ran 25 degrees hot and I didn't check with my own thermometer first. My hard stance on this: if you're baking for anyone but yourself, bring your own oven thermometer and scope out the backup oven before you start. What's your move when a bake sale depends on a machine that just dies on you?
