A customer told me my shortbread tasted like 'polite cardboard', best feedback I ever got

I cut the butter by a third to save calories after she said that, now I use the full amount plus a pinch of salt and my batches sell out at the farmers market in Topeka, does anyone else get useful criticism that stings at first?

Topeka, Kansas? That's over a hundred miles from me, but I've heard your shortbread is the talk of the town out there. I literally laughed out loud when I read "polite cardboard," because that's such a specific burn that it almost sounds like a compliment. It takes guts to hear that and then go back to the drawing board instead of getting defensive. The fact you cut the butter by a third first is exactly what I would've done too, and then realized that was the whole problem. Salt was the real secret though, that's the move, and it's crazy how one little pinch can make people line up like that.
