Shoutout to my digital kitchen scale
For years I just used measuring cups for everything, but my cookies were always a bit flat. Last month I finally bought a cheap $15 scale and weighed the flour for my chocolate chip recipe. The batch came out PERFECT, way thicker and chewier than before. Has anyone else had a simple tool fix a baking problem they thought was just their skill?

My first five loaves of bread were total hockey pucks. I was convinced I had a cursed oven until I got a thermometer and found out it was running 50 degrees cold. Felt like a real genius that day.

That oven thermometer story is a classic, @dylanbarnes. Read a whole thread last week where like six people had the same problem with new apartments. One guy's oven was off by almost 75 degrees, so his cookies just melted into a puddle every single time. It's wild how often that turns out to be the real issue.
