Switched from terra cotta to plastic pots for my balcony herbs and I don't regret it

I was dead set on clay pots for 3 years because they looked nicer, but after last month's heat wave in Austin my basil kept drying out by noon. Now I'm using cheap nursery plastic and my plants are actually thriving has anyone else made the switch?.

Wait, are you sure terra cotta dries out faster than plastic? I thought clay pots actually wick moisture away from the soil, so they dry out even quicker especially in heat like Austin. Plastic pots hold water in way better, which is probably why your basil is doing good now. I had the same problem with my mint in clay pots last summer and switched to plastic too.
