Finally figured out why my fades kept looking muddy
Been cutting hair for 6 years and could never get a clean blend on the sides. Last week a client told me I was going over the same spot too many times with the clipper. Soon as I stopped doing that and started using fewer passes my fades came out way sharper. Anyone else have a basic move that took way too long to learn?

Going over the same spot too many times. That's just called "confidence building through repetition" in my book. Took me about four years and a lot of bad haircuts to figure that one out.

Are you also paying attention to how often you're cleaning your clipper blades mid-cut? Because that was the other thing nobody told me for years. I was out here trying to get a smooth fade with hair gunked up between the teeth, wondering why it kept pulling instead of cutting clean. Once I started wiping the blade down every few minutes and hitting it with some oil, it was like a whole new tool. The combo of fewer passes and clean blades changed everything for me. How often do you stop and clean yours during a cut?
