Exactly. Those notes hit different than a tip. A tip is just money changing hands, but someone sitting down to write you a card means they actually thought about you after they left. It shows they see you as a person, not just the help. That stuff stays with you on a bad day. Makes all the grind feel a little more human.

Many servers I know save their first big tip as a memory. It represents a moment when someone valued their effort enough to pay extra. So while notes are deeply personal, tips can also hold meaning beyond the cash.
