My buddy at the flea market said I'm wasting cash on $5 games I never touch. Is he right?
So last Saturday I'm at the Raleigh flea market digging through a bin of loose PS2 discs and my buddy Dave says, 'You've bought like 30 games this year and beat maybe 4.' That stung because he's not wrong. I counted when I got home and I've dropped around $140 on bargain bin stuff since January, and half of it is still sitting shrink wrapped on the shelf. His point was that a $3 game you never play is still $3 wasted, same as a $60 one. I always figured cheap means low risk, but now I'm wondering if I'm just hoarding instead of actually playing. Do you guys set rules for yourselves like only buying if you'll start it that week, or do you just grab whatever looks fun and deal with the backlog later?
Ever done the math on cost per hour played?
Dave kinda has a point but also kinda doesn't. A $5 game you play for 6 hours is way better value than a $60 one you quit after 2. I grab cheap stuff all the time and some of its duds, sure, but I also found a $4 copy of Katamari that I put 40 hours into. So the real question isnt price, its whether you ever actually pop it in. If its been sitting wrapped since January, thats the problem, not the $3.
