Paid $3 for a scratched GOTY edition instead of $15 for a clean copy

At a flea market in Columbus I had to pick between this beat-up copy of Dragon Age Origins GOTY for 3 bucks or the pristine one for 15. I grabbed the cheap one, and sure enough it froze during the intro on my 360. Took it to a local game shop and they resurfaced it for 5 dollars, so I still came out ahead. Have any of you had luck with scratched discs from bargain bins, or do you always pay more for the cleaner copy?

man that's genuinely frustrating, having it freeze right after you made the smart call. i mean, i've been burned by bargain bin discs more times than i can count, but the resurfacing trick has saved me a bunch too. honestly, half the time the scratched ones are still totally playable after a good clean, so you kind of have to weigh the gamble. like, $8 total for a GOTY edition is still a steal even with the hassle, so i think you came out fine. plus now you probably know the shop there actually does good work, which is worth something on its own.

Ngl, I read somewhere that a lot of those flea market discs are just dirty, not actually scratched deep. Like, a good chunk of the time a microfiber cloth and some rubbing alcohol fixes em before you even need a resurface. You still got a solid deal though, $8 for GOTY with all the DLC is a win in my book. Plus now you know that shop does decent work, which is half the battle.
