Warning: A guy at the flea market in Tucson sold me a "tested" Genesis for $15 and it died in 2 days
Bought it off a table behind the swap meet on Speedway last Saturday. He had a stack of them, all marked tested, works great. Asked him if I could see it run. He said his TV was in the truck and the plug didn't reach. That should have been my sign.
Got it home, plugged it in, red light came on for about 40 seconds then nothing. Opened it up and the power jack was held on with hot glue and there was rust on the board near the cart slot. $15 gone.
Now I open everything before I pay, even if the guy acts annoyed. Same seller had a box of loose carts marked 3 for $10 and I wonder if those are junk too.
What do you all check first when you buy a console off a table like that?
The guy saying his TV was in the truck and the plug didn't reach is pretty funny, honestly, like what was the plan there, run an extension cord across the whole swap meet? I get being mad about 15 bucks but consoles from a flea market table in 2025 are always a gamble, that's kind of the deal. Rust on the board and a power jack held on with hot glue means somebody fixed it just enough to sell, which is shady, but you also skipped the one test that would have told you everything. Opening stuff up before you pay is a quick way to get yelled at, and half these sellers won't let you anyway. If 15 dollars is worth two days of a red light and some hot glue, take the L and move on, or just buy from a shop that lets you return it.
Wait, I read that back and it sounds harsh, so let me soften it a little. The seller flat out lying about tested and works great is the real problem here, not you.
