inI thought the $5 meal plan from my sister in Ohio was nonsense until I added up my food spending for April
That "boring beans-and-rice rotation" line got me because that's exactly what saved me too. I did the same math last year and found out I was dropping close to $300 a month just on grabbing lunch out, which honestly made me feel sick. Switched to cooking a big pot of something cheap on Sunday and packing it all week, and my grocery bill barely moved while my eating out money dropped off a cliff. It's wild how the plans that look the most dull end up being the ones that actually stick.

inTried a rain barrel setup after a neighbor in Eugene showed me his, and my summer water bill dropped by $31
My dad ran a single barrel for years and I always figured a second one was a waste since the first never even filled all the way. Then I saw my neighbor's setup in Eugene with two linked together and the second one filled just fine, maybe a little slower but it got there. The trick was he put the second barrel on a small stand so the water levels out between them, and by mid summer both were full after one good storm. I ended up adding a second one myself and I get about twice the water now, which matters when July hits and the garden is thirsty. So yeah, I was wrong about it being pointless.

Warning: A guy at the flea market in Tucson sold me a "tested" Genesis for $15 and it died in 2 days
The guy saying his TV was in the truck and the plug didn't reach is pretty funny, honestly, like what was the plan there, run an extension cord across the whole swap meet? I get being mad about 15 bucks but consoles from a flea market table in 2025 are always a gamble, that's kind of the deal. Rust on the board and a power jack held on with hot glue means somebody fixed it just enough to sell, which is shady, but you also skipped the one test that would have told you everything. Opening stuff up before you pay is a quick way to get yelled at, and half these sellers won't let you anyway. If 15 dollars is worth two days of a red light and some hot glue, take the L and move on, or just buy from a shop that lets you return it. Wait, I read that back and it sounds harsh, so let me soften it a little. The seller flat out lying about tested and works great is the real problem here, not you.
