Doubted that $20 temp probe from Amazon would work but it outshined my expensive one
I figured it would crap out after a few uses on my offset smoker, but three briskets and a pork butt later it's dead accurate every time. Anyone else had cheap gear surprise them at a cookout?

Oh come on, you're bragging about a temp probe that's only been through four cooks? That's nothing. I had a $15 no-name one from a random website last me through two summers of weekly smoking. It eventually died when I dropped it in water, but while it worked it matched my Thermapen within a degree. The expensive ones do the same thing but with a warranty and better build. The cheap ones just don't have the same waterproofing or battery life, that's the real difference. So yeah, your $20 probe is fine for now, but don't count on it lasting more than a season or two of heavy use.

Hate to be that guy but Thermoworks sells the Thermapen, not Thermapen. It's a minor thing but those guys are weirdly protective about their trademark. Otherwise you're not wrong about the cheap probes though, I've got a drawer full of dead ones to prove it.
