Update: That one cookout where I quit saucing my ribs mid-smoke

Got inspired by a pitmaster show to stop glazing ribs early and just trust the smoke. Ended up forgetting halfway through and left them bare the whole time. When my friends tried them, they were so confused, thinking I'd invented some dry rib trend. Had a good laugh explaining it was an accident, but they said the flavor was actually pretty solid. Sometimes the best BBQ mistakes turn out okay, I guess.

Accidents becoming trends is basically how most good stuff happens in life anyway. Your friends just proved the rule.

Hey, the idea that accidents lead to most good stuff doesn't match my experience. Many big wins come from focus and practice, not just chance. For example, athletes train for years to win medals, they don't just stumble into it. Even great music bands spend time honing their sound before hitting it big. While lucky breaks happen, counting on accidents feels like hoping to win the lottery. I see more value in setting goals and working toward them.

Back in high school, I was sure everything good came from hard work. But reading about things like penicillin being found by chance, and now @lewis.seth's point, really shifted my view. I still see the value in goals, but luck plays a bigger part than I thought.
