My first cleanup kit used to be a plastic grocery bag
Back in March I'd just grab whatever bag was in the car and wander the beach near Santa Cruz, picking up whatever I could see. Now I bring a 5-gallon bucket with a lid, a grabber I found on clearance, and separate mesh bags for bottle caps and fishing line. The bucket keeps stuff from blowing away and the grabber saves my back, so I can work twice as long without stopping. I also timed myself: 45 minutes covers about a mile of shoreline now instead of just the main stretch by the pier. Has anyone else switched from simple carry gear to a full setup, and did it change how much you collect?
Next thing you know you'll be wearing a vest with 47 pockets and a little headlamp for night beachcombing. Gravity and plastic bottles aren't going anywhere, so sure, why not. I bet your car trunk looks like a mobile recycling center now too.
