Used a bit of beeswax on a sticky shifter cable and it worked way better than I thought

Had a customer's bike with a 105 shifter that was just gummy, even after a fresh cable and housing, so I rubbed a tiny bit of beeswax from a candle on the inner cable before threading it. The shift action went from feeling like mud to super crisp, and it's been smooth for over a month now in our wet spring. Has anyone else used something odd like this for cable lube, or is this a bad idea long term?

Always thought that was weird. Might try it now.

My buddy did the exact same thing with a candle for his old mountain bike. He said the cable felt like it was dragging through wet sand before, but after the wax it was silent and quick. That was two years ago and he swears it still shifts fine.
