Compared two rain jackets for my daily 8 mile commute through Portland last month and one was a total disaster.
I tested a $40 poncho against a $120 cycling-specific rain jacket (the kind with taped seams). The poncho billowed up like a parachute at every stoplight and got caught in my spokes twice. Has anyone else had a poncho nearly flip you into traffic like that?
I switched to a Carhartt rain shell after that happened to me in 2017. The poncho catches wind like a sail and makes you a hazard on any MAX platform. Just get a proper jacket with a hood that cinches down, it's worth the extra money.
