Rode into a headwind yesterday and my kids' school papers turned the bag into a kite. Strapped a small bungee cord across the straps to pull it tight against my back, huge difference. Anyone else got a weird trick for stabilizing bags in gusts?
Ever tried loading the heavy stuff at the bottom and cinching the side compression straps so the bag hugs your lower back instead of flapping around your shoulders? That helped me a ton, but the bungee trick is solid too. I also keep a dry bag rolled tight at the top when I'm not carrying extra layers, just so there's less flat surface for the wind to grab. Another thing is turning the bag sideways if you're walking, not riding, because the profile is smaller that way. Worst gust I caught was on a bridge, thought I was gonna get pulled off my feet, so now I check the forecast before I even load up.
