Overheard a teenager say 'I don't get why anyone would watch a show with more than 20 episodes a season' and it made me feel ancient
That kid has no idea what it was like to wait a whole week for a new episode of The X-Files back in season 3 when you had to actually be home at 8pm or miss it entirely, so has anyone else noticed how younger viewers just refuse to commit to longer series now?

Mastering the art of the 45-minute bottle episode" - come on man, that's a bit much. It's a TV show, not a PhD program. @markm27, I get missing the old days but acting like waiting a week for an X-Files episode made you some kind of media scholar is a stretch. Kids binge 10 episodes of something in a night and they still get the payoff, they just get it faster. I've seen 22-episode seasons that could've been 12 and been better off. The real issue is half these older shows had filler episodes that were straight trash, not this holy "character building" experience you're making it out to be.

Right, because mastering the art of the 45-minute bottle episode that changes everything is clearly too much work for the TikTok generation. Waiting seven days just to see if Mulder finally gets abducted built character and a VHS tape collection. Is bingeing an entire series in one weekend really more fulfilling than the agony of waiting for the next part?
