Vent: is decorative film actually worse than no film for strikes?

I see people posting pics of those pretty frosted films thinking they prevent strikes, but my feeder cam in Austin caught a cardinal bounce right off one last Tuesday. The film reflects less, but birds still see the glass as a gap. Am I wrong for thinking plain window decals spaced closer work better than full coverage?
