A client in Portland said my forge weld looked 'cold' and I almost argued

He pointed at a subtle line in the steel and said, 'That's not a union, it's a suggestion.' I cranked the gas and got a better heat the next time. How do you spot a weak weld before it fails?

That "suggestion" line is a killer... reminds me of the time I tried to braze a hinge with a butane torch from the hardware store. Let's just say the door had a very... flexible opinion on staying shut. A good weld should look like one piece of metal, not two pieces that met at a party and are awkwardly standing close together.
