My first donut vs my 10th donut in Blender is wild to look back on
I dug up my very first Blender project from 8 months ago, the classic beginner donut tutorial. The icing was all lumpy, the sprinkles looked like weird cubes floating off the surface, and the lighting was just a single point light making everything look flat. I remember spending like 3 hours trying to figure out why my subdivision surface modifier crashed the whole program. Fast forward to this week I made another donut just for fun and the difference is huge. The geometry flows smooth now, I used an HDRI for lighting, and the sprinkles actually look like they're sitting in the icing. It's crazy how much just practicing the same simple thing over and over teaches you. Did anyone else keep their first model to compare later or did you delete it out of embarrassment?

Ha! Oh man, I kept mine but only because I was too lazy to delete it. I call that first donut my "glorified rock" because the icing looked like a lumpy blob that someone dropped on the ground. The sprinkles were basically floating geometric shards like they were trying to escape. But looking back now it's actually kind of fun to see how far you come, even if it makes you cringe a little. Your second donut sounds way better, I bet if you remake it again in another year it'll blow your mind again.

370 hours into Blender and my first donut still makes me laugh, but honestly I think comparing them is kinda overrated. Everyone talks about progress like it's this big win, but your first attempt had a certain raw charm that the second one just doesn't have, you know? The lumpy icing and floating sprinkles had personality, like a punk rock donut that didn't care about rules. Now your donut is technically better but it's also safer, more predictable, like everyone else's donut. I actually deleted my first model out of embarrassment and I'm kind of glad, because looking back at it would just make me remember all the frustration, not the fun of learning.
