Found out my old copy of Cosmic Encounter is worth something now

I was cleaning out my parents' basement last weekend in Cleveland and dug up my 1977 Mayfair edition of Cosmic Encounter, the one with the weird orange box and the cheap plastic ships. I figured it was just a nostalgic piece, so I looked it up on BGG out of curiosity. Turns out, a complete copy with the original rules and all the alien cards goes for like $150 to $200 on eBay. I nearly dropped my coffee, lol. That game sat in a damp cardboard box for 30 years, and my mom almost threw it out twice. I remember playing it at my buddy Tim's house back in high school, and we never got the rules right, we just made up our own chaos. Now I'm torn between selling it to fund a new table or keeping it as a relic. Has anyone else found an old gem in their attic that turned out to be worth real cash?

Wait, so all those years we spent house-ruling it into a four-hour mess of betrayal and stolen ships, and the actual game is worth real cash? That's hilarious in a painful way, because I had a box of old Magic cards from the 90s that my cousin used as a frisbee, probably tossed a Black Lotus across the yard without knowing it. Honestly though, $200 for a box that survived your mom's basement purge twice feels like you already won, no matter what you do with it. If you sell it, you're funding a table but losing the thing that reminds you of Tim and the chaos you invented, and that's a heavy trade for a piece of furniture. My gut says keep it, spray it with some Febreze, and if Tim's still around, blame him for every rule you got wrong back then.
