Just noticed guys on our crew keep grinding rods the wrong way

I was watching a guy prep a weld joint last week and he was pushing the grinding wheel into the metal instead of pulling it across. My old foreman back in Gary would have chewed him out for that. It leaves a rougher surface and takes way more time to get a clean bevel. Has anyone else seen this or am I just being picky about technique?

Who knew I've been grinding backwards this whole time?

Geez, that reminds me of the time I spent a whole afternoon grinding a piece of steel backwards on a job site because I was trying to look busy and not ask for help. The foreman came over, took one look at the mess I made, and just sighed so loud I think the neighbors heard him. I swear I thought I was saving time by going faster, but I just ended up with a wavy, gouged-up surface that took twice as long to fix. So yeah, you're not being picky at all. I'm living proof that doing it wrong is a real time-waster, even if you think you're getting away with it. We all have those moments where we think we know better, right?
