My old foreman in Gary told me to leave my tube rollers in the truck, and I still think about it
I was on a boiler job in Gary, Indiana about 4 years back and my foreman watched me rolling tubes by hand for a whole shift before he said anything. He told me to put the roller down and wait for the torque wrench to do the work, said I was over-rolling and would crack the seats. I ignored him for 2 more tubes and sure enough, one of them started weeping on the hydro test the next morning. We had to cut it out and redo it, lost half a day and about $600 in parts. Has anyone else had a foreman call out something you were sure you had down pat, and were they actually right?
Man, that stings just reading it. Having someone watch you work all day and not say a word until after you've already messed it up is the worst feeling, and then eating the cost on top of it makes it even worse. Funny how the guys who've been doing it 30 years can spot a problem from across the room but wait until you've learned it the hard way. Sounds like your foreman knew exactly what was coming and just let it play out, which is honestly a pretty brutal way to teach someone. At least you walked away with a lesson you never forgot, even if the price tag was rough.
