Tried a cheap laser level on a big tank job and it surprised me
Honestly, I picked up a $45 laser level from Harbor Freight last month for a 30-foot diameter tank repair in Gary. I figured it would drift or just be useless in the sunlight, but it held a line better than my buddy's $300 one did on the same weld seam. Ngl, I learned that for layout work on flat surfaces, spending crazy money isn't always the answer. Anyone else had luck with budget tools on a real job, or did I just get a lucky unit?

A $45 level beating a $300 one sounds less like luck and more like your buddy got robbed. Cheap tools catch a bad rap because half of them are junk, but every now and then you pull one out of the box that just works. Enjoy it while it lasts, because that thing will probably die on the next job out of pure spite.
