PVA vs. wheat paste, I was a skeptic until last month's repair job

I always thought wheat paste was just for fussy conservators, but after mending a 40 year old atlas for a client in Portland that PVA kept cracking on, I gave it a real shot. The paste held the hinge flex smoothly and dried reversible, which sold me completely. Anyone else use wheat paste for repairs over PVA, or am I the last convert?

Check if the atlas had any coated pages, that changes everything.

Huh, wait, did the coated pages make the PVA peel off or just not sink in right?
