Six months in, my first sewn endbands finally stopped looking like a rat chewed them
I switched from stiff linen thread to 18/3 silk and started waxing it twice, and the difference between my January notebooks and the ones coming off my bench now is night and day. Anybody else got a thread and wax combo they swear by for tight hand-sewn headbands?
A guy at the book arts guild here in Portland swears by 35/3 linen with a 50/50 beeswax and paraffin mix, says the paraffin keeps it from getting gummy in summer. I tried straight beeswax for a while and it was fine but the thread kept grabbing at the needle hole on tight signatures.
