Warning: a binder in Savannah told me my grain direction was wrong on 40 text blocks
I was cranking out journals last spring and feeling good about a batch of 40 text blocks, all folded nice and neat. A binder named Ruth at a guild meetup in Savannah picked one up and said flat out, "the grain is running the wrong way, these will fight you when you case them in." I brushed it off for a week, then tried casing in three of them and the spines cockled and the boards warped like potato chips. So I re-folded the whole batch, grain running head to tail, and the difference was night and day. Now I check every sheet with a quick bend test before I fold anything. Has anyone else had a whole run ruined by grain direction, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
